Types of Shutters

Full Height Shutters

Full height shutters are window coverings that measure the full length of your window. Fitted as either a single louvred panel that can open and close on one or two hinges like a door, or as a concertina-effect which works best on large window or door areas, they’re our most popular shutter style, and for good reason.

Our full height shutters can be crafted with or without a mid-rail in place, giving you the option to have one half open and one closed for that extra level of flexibility and light control.

The mid rail provides structural benefits to your shutters, acting as a central support for larger panel designs.  However, some windows are better suited to a ‘hidden split’, without the mid-rail.

Cafe Style Shutters

Half Height shutters give you the best of both worlds. Most commonly seen in a louvred style – where slats can be positioned to let in or block out light – café shutters only cover a portion of their respective window fittings. Ideal for providing privacy in street-level living spaces without compromising on natural lighting, or for those that simply don’t want to get rid of their curtains, café shutters are a stylish and practical option.

Shaped Shutters

Our bespoke hardwood shutters can be made to fit just about any shape you can think of.

We can custom make special shape shutters to fit even the most unusual spaces, from portholes and arches, circles, trapezoids and triangles! No shape is too tricky for our shutter specialists. Unlike their blind counterparts, our bespoke built shutters are fitted to the exact curve and angle of your window surrounds.

Tracked Shutters

Tracked shutters are window coverings where the panels are attached to a track at the bottom, instead of a frame piece like a traditional plantation shutter. Our Tracked shutters can be crafted so that multiple panels are fitted together with hinges and bi-fold to the side of your windows, or they can operate as single panels that slide to either side on two tracks. Our Tracked shutters are crafted in our quality hardwood and are available as Full height shutters in a painted or stained finish. We offer an option of By-Pass Tracked Shutter which allows the doors to slide alongside each other.

Waterproof Shutters

We typically recommend our waterproof shutters in bathrooms, wet rooms, kitchens or any other room in the home that may be prone to high levels of moisture. They are also perfect for use in conservatories and indoor swimming pools. Our waterproof range is designed to withstand constant use, also making it an ideal hard-wearing option for rental and commercial properties.

They can come into direct contact with water and live to tell the tale in tip top condition for years and years. What’s more, there’s no telling the difference between waterproof shutters and their wooden counterparts, meaning no compromise whatsoever. Rest assured, you are going to love waterproof shutters just as much as the rest of our range!

Tier on Tier Shutters

Tier-on-tier (or double hung) shutters are slatted plantation shutters that offer full window coverage in as much the same way as a full-height shutter does, but with an added extra.

The upper and lower panels of a tier-on-tier shutter are physically separated, meaning that the top and bottom sections can be opened or closed independently of one another.

Solid Window Shutters

Solid window shutters’ is the term given to any shutter whose panels are not louvered or slatted. They are made of solid hardwood and, as such, let in far less light than their more contemporary peers. They’re a favourite for those who want to keep a traditional Victorian look for their windows, in keeping with old English, Regency-styled bay windows that rise from floor to ceiling.  Owing to their solid, all covering nature, solid window shutters are perfect for darkening your room space. Whilst not producing a complete ‘blackout’ effect, they do a wonderful job of creating dark, peaceful bedrooms or complementing elegant interiors of high-ceilinged living rooms.
